“From an entrepreneurial point of view, I think the SABM Investor Group opens up a door to not only additional funds that may be needed but great strategic leaders that can come alongside you and help.”–Jim Mulford, USAFA ‘70
The Service Academy Investor Group is a network of U.S. Service Academy graduates who are investing in businesses and real estate projects led by other Academy grads. Join the group to discover investment opportunities and share your opportunities with the network. This is a great opportunity to invest with people who share the traits of intelligence, integrity and grit.
Today, we’re sharing the story of Jim Mulford (USAFA ‘70) and acQyr eXchange. Jim has presented to the investor group before and has been featured on the SABM Podcast.
Meet Jim Mulford
Jim Mulford is a 1970 graduate of the United States Air Force Academy. He studied Computer Science at the Academy and was able to continue his education at UCLA, earning his Master’s Degree in Computer Science. Jim served for eight years in the Air Force, contributing with his technology background. In 1978, Jim separated from the Air Force and joined a small firm, working his way up to Vice President. He took a leap of faith with two colleagues and, as a trio, they started their own company. Jim has been an entrepreneur ever since.
Jim’s most recent entrepreneurial venture is acQyr eXchange, the first public exchange to track and manage the digital assets (tournament winnings, loyalty rewards, earned prizes, etc.) consumers acquire online that then can be redeemed for cash. The platform was originally developed in partnership with Mastercard for the retail space and it provides a lot of functionality and real-time processing.
Jim discovered the SABM Investor Group and attended some of the monthly pitch calls the group hosts for investors and entrepreneurs. He was impressed with the number of accredited investors and loved the quality of the pitches and opportunities. Jim decided to make his five-minute pitch for acQyr eXchange as the company was raising some additional funds. Jim’s pitch grabbed the attention of some of the investors in attendance and, after discussing the opportunity in more detail, acQyr eXchange secured four investors that put close to $300,000 in the company.
Jim is one of many entrepreneurs who has connected with investors through the SABM Investor Group. We love playing a part in making these connections and helping service academy grads grow their businesses. We look forward to seeing the continued success of Jim and acQyr eXchange!
